Instagram might start looking a lot more like Snapchat, if their latest release is anything to go by.
Instagram has always been a highly curated social media where people take a lot of care with the way their stream looks, some even use it as a portfolio of sorts. However a new secondary stream was today introduced which will act as a more immediate off the cuff way of communicating together. The new feature lets you share all the moments of your day, not just the ones you want to keep on your profile.
Imaginatively dubbed Instagram Stories is a lot like Snapchat Stories. You can add text and drawings to the video, and spam it as much as you like because the photos and videos will disappear after 24 hours and won’t appear on your profile grid or in feed.
Stories from people you know or follow will appear as their DP image at the top of Instagram, and when they have new content there you can tap it to view. Tap to go back and forward or swipe to jump to another person’s story. If you want to comment on something you see, you can tap and send a private message to that person on Instagram Direct. Unlike regular posts, there are no likes or public comments.
The stories will follow the same privacy settings as the rest of your account, so if you’re a private sorta person, you don’t need to worry about the rest of the planet seeing you drunkenly ramble on at your friends. You can also specify people you don’t want to see your story, to make backstabbing even easier!
When watching your own story, swipe up to check out who’s seen each photo and video. You can even choose to feature a particular part of your story by posting it on your profile.
Instagram Stories will be rolling out globally over the next few weeks on iOS and Android so keep an eye out for it!
