Lorde Just Dropped a New Song and Her Album Release Date

A week ago Lorde dropped the music video “Green Light” and people went wild for it. A few hours ago she dropped another track on Youtube called Liability, the next track to be featured on her next album Melodrama.

“I wanted you to have a new song from Melodrama, a new chapter of the story – this is Liability” Lorde said via her Twitter account.

The track is a simple tune that’s primarily Lorde singing with a sad piano tune that could well swell into an anthem. It’s very reminiscent of the first half of My Chemical Romance’s “Black Parade”. Weird conclusion to make I know.

Also the album’s release date has been revealed as coming out June 16th, and you can pre-order it now here. Fans who pre-order the album now get both the songs instantly.

Last week when Green Light was released the song instantly shot up to the #1 most viral song in the world on Spotify.

Talking to fans on Twitter she said what she’s most excited for fans to hear is “an amazing wild two-part journey of a song that’s been a year in the making”.

Also a lot of songs aren’t going to make it onto the album, and sit on the cutting room floor, due to not fitting the theme of the album. “We have a ton of amazing leftover songs that just didn’t quite fit inside the world of melodrama”.

Here’s the lyrics for Greenlight:

Baby really hurt me
Crying in the taxi
He don’t wanna know me
Says he made the big mistake of dancing in my storm
Says it was poison
So I guess I’ll go home
Into the arms of the girl that I love
The only love I haven’t screwed up
She’s so hard to please
But she’s a forest fire
I do my best to meet her demands
Play at romance, we slow dance
In the living room, but all that a stranger would see
Is one girl swaying alone
Stroking her cheek

They say, “You’re a little much for me
You’re a liability
You’re a little much for me”
So they pull back, make other plans
I understand, I’m a liability
Get you wild, make you leave
I’m a little much for
E-a-na-na-na, everyone

The truth is I am a toy
That people enjoy
‘Til all of the tricks don’t work anymore
And then they are bored of me
I know that it’s exciting
Running through the night, but
Every perfect summer’s
Eating me alive until you’re gone
Better on my own

They say, “You’re a little much for me
You’re a liability
You’re a little much for me”
So they pull back, make other plans
I understand, I’m a liability
Get you wild, make you leave
I’m a little much for
E-a-na-na-na, everyone

They’re gonna watch me
Disappear into the sun
You’re all gonna watch me
Disappear into the sun
