While there are about a billion theories out there as to how to make your baby smarter, a new study has found that the foods that women eat while pregnant could be linked with how smart a child will be. According to a recent study by researchers at the University of Alberta, eating fruit could be the key to ensuring that your baby is smart.
While the study noted that the findings are preliminary, the data that the researchers uncovered was compelling. Looking at the data of 688 children as part of the Canadian Healthy Infant Longitudinal Development study, the study found that women who consumed an additional serving of fruit every day were more likely to have a child who had a high cognitive score one year after birth. Up until now, fish has been the only other food that has been linked with the cognitive development of children.
Dr. Piush Mandhane, an associate professor of pediatrics at University of Alberta and one of the two senior authors of the paper, said that while the study should not yet be taken as absolute fact, there appeared to be a strong correlation between women’s fruit consumption and her child’s cognitive scores.
