With the warmer months upon us, many of us are gearing up for wedding season – the special time of year when many of us head along to celebrate the marriages of some of our closest friends, family members, or maybe even our own wedding. While it’s common knowledge that the majority of couples choose to get married in spring or summer, a new study has found that just as there is a wedding season, there is also a ‘divorce season’.
The study that was conducted by University of Washington sociologists, analysed divorce filings in Washington state between 2001 and 2015, concluding that divorce filings consistency peaked in March and August every year. While it wasn’t entirely clear why these peaks occurred, researchers concluded that the peaks in divorce filings were most likely due to the holidays and events that preceded these months.
