The study that was conducted by the University of California followed 43 obese children who had chronic metabolic conditions. For nine days researchers changed the diets of the children, substituting their normal snacks and drinks for alternatives with the same amount of calories but less sugar. In place of sugary cereals, soft drinks and pastries, the children ate other high calorie foods like bagels, hot dogs and pizza.
