Friendship is a super important aspect of our everyday lives. Lately I’ve found myself getting caught up in work commitments, university work and spending time with my partner and not having enough time to see my friends as often as I’d like.
We all know friendship is a two-way street, but when you’re having trouble getting that work-life balance right sometimes you end up not giving your friends as much attention as they deserve.
It can be a good idea every now and then to think about how you’re treating your friends and work on being a better friend them, so here’s a few handy tips to help you better and strengthen your friendships.
Be a good listener
It’s easy to get caught up in your own mind or want to vent about your own problems. But be careful not to forget to let the other person vent their own frustrations. Everybody likes to feel heard and appreciated so take the time to listen to your friends, ask them questions about how things are going in their life.
Make time for friendship dates
Part of being friends means you enjoy each others company. Spending time with your friends is always a great mood-lifter. My friends and I have scheduled “Taco Tuesdays” where we go out for dinner together. Or even just watch movies at someones house. It’s nice to take some time out and just be together. It doesn’t matter if it’s doing something as simple as eating some Mexican food together.
Build your friends up
Just like with a partner it’s important that you treat your friend circles with loyalty. For example, if you think they look nice today tell them. Give them compliments and celebrate their achievements with them.
