Today is the perfect day to celebrate yourself as well as all of the wonderful women that are a part of your life because it’s International Women’s Day! While every International Women’s Day is a time where we acknowledge the power of women and the progress our society has made each Women’s Day also has a different theme.
This year the theme is #Pressforprogress and it’s a good way of acknowledging how far we have all come as well as reminding us of all the work that still needs to be done to create a more equal society for all. Press for progress is quite an apt theme for 2018 after movements in Hollywood like #metoo and #time’s up have been pushed to the forefront. Addressing sexual assault and harassment in Hollywood has been long overdue and it’s been good to finally see progress being made in being more open about these issues and showing that it’s not acceptable or okay behaviour. Now more than ever, people are ready to stand up for women’s rights and let their voices be heard.
But while there has been much needed progress the World Economic Forum’s 2017 Global Gender Gap Report has told us that gender parity is still over 200 years away. So it’s obvious now is a time when we all need to stay motivated in our goals and press for that further progress.
