As it turns out one of our most famous tourist destinations is making waves overseas. Rotorua was recently named one of the world’s top travel destinations by none other than The New York Times. The newspaper released its annual list of 52 places to go and Rotorua New Zealand was featured at number 45.
The article described Rotorua as a “hub of Maori culture”. As well as praising the annual Mudtopia Festival, the redwood tree walk and of course the iconic geysers and hot springs.
Louisiana, New Orleans took out the number one spot on the list. Along with Columbia, Italy and The Caribbean all featuring highly on the list. The list is created by hundreds of submissions by regular contributors and then edited down to the final 52.
So, if your 2018 new year’s resolution was to visit some more exciting places you may only need to go as far as the centre North Island to experience one of the world’s finest.
