If you didn’t already know, carbs are not your enemy. Cutting carbohydrates from your diet is not the fastest way to burn fat! However, since most of our diets are comprised of delicious carbohydrates, might as well know which form of carbs is the best for you. The Journal of the American College of Nutrition carried out a small study to assess which carb will keep us the most satiated.
First, a pasta meal was compared to 4 different potato-based meals that were of equal energy value. These consisted of french fries, baked potato, mashed potato and potato wedges. The participants rated the level of satiety following a Visual Analogue Scale (VAS).
The study reports that, “Consumers reported higher levels of satiety following a meal where the principal carbohydrate source was fried french fries, compared to when they had consumed an energy-matched meal containing carbohydrate in the form of pasta. All other potato preparations had similar effects on satiety as pasta.”
Despite the fact that it provides the most fullness, I’d say it’s the least “healthiest”.
*Off to find the healthiest form of potato right now!”
