The Best Places To Go For A Cheeky Cocktail This Weekend

Cocktails are synonymous with a good time, think about it, no story starts with cocktails and ends with ‘I had an awful night.’ Whatever tantalises your taste buds – sweet, sour, strong, sparkling – you can get it in a drink.

Here are some of the most magnificent cocktails bars in New Zealand, which will make you forget for at least a few minutes that you are not sunning yourself in Europe or on a tropical holiday.

Bedford Ballers
Takapuna and Ponsonby

If you want something fun, quirky and ‘totes grammable’, Bedford Ballers should be on your hit list. The New York flavour-inspired bar serves cocktails that are beautiful and well worth a trip.

If you make it to just one cocktail bar this year, make it the Caretaker. It was a pretty secret bar, probably due to it’s hidden location, however once it became one of Auckland’s favourite spots for a cocktail you will be fighting for a spot. Step into an era of effortless cool, classic cocktails, vintage knick-knacks, leather seats and a dimly lit room – perfect to impress on a date. The best part is you tell them what drinks you like; liquor, taste, sweetness etc and they surprise you with your drink.

We will save you a spot at the bar. Live Cuban jazz from 9pm.

If you want to treat yourself, head to 1885 and try out their cocktail bar – The Basement Bar – which is hidden below the main level. It’s exclusive, it’s fancy and it is also home to bar staff who hold World Cocktails Awards. In other words, you are in good hands.

And we’re back. Locked and landed with @theblackclub_ x @milkshakemodels tonight from 9pm ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ’ž

The Library Bar
Courtney Place

In what must be one of the best looking bars in New Zealand, The Library Bar has been providing Wellingtonians and visitors alike with top-knotch cocktails and a book to enjoy as you sip. ย Head along for live music, delicious polenta chips and a cocktail with an amazing name : Party Thyme, The Fresh Prince and Randy Savage are a few of our faves. If you are there on a Wednesday, don’t miss their 2for1 cocktails!

Motel Bar
Forresters Lane

As with most of our favourite spots on this list, Motel Bar is a sneaky wee gem hidden down Forresters Lane Alleyway (just off Tory Street). Think a tropical escape as you step inside, with Jungle Juice, Mr Lava Lava and The Girl with the Mermaid Tattoo transporting you to a tropical island. Drinking out of Tiki Mugs and snacking on pineapple lumps, what could be more tropical?

The Mall

Everyone knows that Queenstown has a good night-life scene, the cold can’t stop people enjoying a good drink or two. After spending the day exploring the beautiful spot, hitting the slopes or simply enjoying your day at a local winery, Bardeaux is a Queenstown institution you need to enjoy. ย It’s an intimate spot, with an extensive cocktail (and wine) menu.
