Chardonnays have been making a big comeback lately with some outstanding wines coming out of the Hawke’s Bay region. Crossroads is a great example. Well priced and a great drop for the winter months, 2014 was a great season for Hawke’s Bay and in the last post we were talking up the Hawke’s Bay Syrah’s from 2014. It seems it was a great season for Chardonnays too.
This single vineyard wine from grapes grown on the sunny terraces of Crossroads’ southern vineyards on Keruru Road, is a complex Chardonnay with citrus blossom, nectarine and toasty oak characters on the nose. The palate is rich and creamy, with flavours of melon, lemon and peach leading to a long fresh finish.
If you were wondering what dish to serve this up with then what about some Southern fried chicken with butter chips?
