The hugely influential singer who rose to fame in the 80s with albums such as Purple Rain and Sign O’ the Times tragically passed away on Thursday.
Police were brought to his Paisley Park estate in Minneapolis early on Thursday after his body was found in a lift. An investigation has been started into the cause.
The county Sheriff said that his deputies responded to a medical call at 09:43 local time at the estate. First responders came to give him CPR and pronounced him dead at 10:07.
“It is with profound sadness that I am confirming that the legendary, iconic performer, Prince Rogers Nelson, has died,” his spokeswoman said.
“There are no further details as to the cause of death at this time.”
Last Friday on the 15th it was reported the singers plane had to make an emergency landing for Prince after he fell ill with the flue mid-flight.
