Children’s Charity Variety has announced that acclaimed Kiwi actress Robyn Malcolm will accompany a team of travellers on the 2012 Variety Adventure Trek – The Great Wall Of China Challenge.

Variety has joined forces with adventure travel company, World Expeditions, to create an Adventure Trek like no other.   Hosted by Robyn Malcolm, this trek invites you into “real-life China”.  From exploring rural villages of Inner Mongolia to meeting locals who infrequently, sometimes never, see westerners – this is a cultural and historical experience for those up for a challenge.

Host Robyn Malcolm said, “I am thrilled to have been given the opportunity to do this trip.  I have not been to China and aside from the incredible cuisine; there is a culture, history and landscape I’m really excited by.”

In addition to the bespoke Chinese adventure, participants will support Variety – The Children’s Charity via an instant $500 donation upon joining the tour.   As part of this Charity Challenge, Variety supports and encourages travellers to raise additional funds though sponsorships, donations or any other creative fundraising ideas.  It can be as simple as creating a page via the Variety website

Previous Adventure Challenger Antonia Prebble cycled Vietnam for Variety earlier this year, “I offered friends, family and companies I knew the chance to buy a leg of the journey… people loved the idea and were happy to support this good cause.  I named the day after the person or company who bought it and mentioned it on my blog.”

“I’m really excited to do something for Variety,” said Robyn Malcolm.  “They are such positive and active advocates for our kids.”

The funds raised from the Great Wall Of China Challenge will go towards Variety’s Future Kiwi Kids programme which is focused on Kiwi Kids reaching their full potential by helping them overcome challenges.  Future Kiwi Kids includes Variety’s Gold Heart Scholarship programme, the Variety Voices Choir, the Future Kiwi Kids endowment fund, and various educational and technology initiatives.
