A taxi company in Abu Dhabi is introducing a fleet of women only cabs. The pink and lavendar cars will be driven by women and only take female and children passengers.
Taxi regulatorTransAD’s seven franchisees will each have to provide ten of the pink-and-lavender taxis, which women will be able to book for themselves and children younger than ten through their call centre. The company also said the women’s taxis would also have a “special” shape, although they declined to provide details. The vehicles are to be unveiled before the service is launched in March.
Women-only taxi services already operate in Dubai, Beirut, Tehran, Damascus and Kuwait. The service in Kuwait says they receive about 20 calls a day.
