A before and after makeup photo of 20-year-old Ashley VanPevenage has become the centre of a nasty viral meme. Due to her allergic reaction to benzoyl, her acne was particularly bad on the post that was uploaded by Instagrammer @MakeupByDreigh.
The picture was reposted on Twitter with the caption, “I don’t understand how people can do this and I can’t figure out how to conceal a single pimple on my face.”

Following this, the meme circulated the internet with hateful comments regarding her acne and the duplicitous nature of makeup.
Ashley responded to the horrible comments about her looks and admitted she didn’t go out unless she had full makeup and hair done. She said,
“I have never been one to be uncomfortable with going out in public and my natural hair until this picture was posted.”
“I hope that everyone can gain something from this video. I hope that young girls that are dealing with acne or even adults dealing with acne will feel better and feel confident about their face and who they are.”
