If you’re planning on living in or around a big city you may as well pick the most livable. But what counts as “liveable”. Well it’s more than just “bearable” the 2016 Liveability Ranking and Overview put together by the EIU measures everything from civil stability, healthcare, culture & environment, education and infrastructure.
Both Australia make the top ten list. Australia brings Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth to the table, all getting good placements due to a shared healthcare and education system. However Melbourne takes out the top global position for most livable city in the world.
This doesn’t come as a complete surprise, the top five cities have held their positions for years. However increasing instability around the world has shifted other cities positions. Sydney used to place in the top ten, but an increased threat of terrorism has made it drop down the charts, opening up a place for Hamburg to make its way into the top ten.
Auckland is New Zealand’s most livable city, I’m sure most non-Jaffas would disagree. Auckland’s healthcare is the only city in the top ten that doesn’t score a perfect 100 for healthcare, and sits on a conspicuous 95.8.
