These Are The Top 10 Fitness Trends of 2017

It turns out that the biggest trend shaping up for next year is also one of the most useless in terms of weight loss. Although of course, health isn’t all about shedding pounds. If you’re one of those people that can’t leave the house without your fitbit, or turning on your iPhone to track everything you do, then you’re already part of the trend.

The American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) has announced its annual fitness trend forecast and, unsurprisingly, exercise pros say wearable technology will again be the top fitness trend in the coming year. The results were released in the article “Worldwide Survey of Fitness Trends for 2017” published in the November/December issue of ACSM’s Health & Fitness Journal.

This is the 11th year the survey has run, and canvases 1,800 health and fitness professionals worldwide.

The top 10 fitness trends for 2017 are:

1. Wearable Technology

includes activity trackers, smart watches, heart rate monitors and GPS tracking devices.

2. Body Weight Training

Not just push ups and pull ups, body weight training is the back to basics approach to training, and will be super popular next year.

3. High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT)

HIIT is seen as an approachable way for normal people with limited time to smash into an intense workout. Recent studies see it as somewhat of a silver bullet for time poor individuals.

4. Educated and Experienced Fitness Professionals

People realize they need trained individuals to keep them from optimising their routines and stop them from injuring themselves by mistake. It’s a larger investment, but ultimately worth it.

5. Strength Training

Along with the other essential components of aerobic exercise and flexibility strength training remains a core focus for most health clubs, and probably always will be.
