Thai Health Promotion Foundation and BBDO Bangkok have teamed up to create a plate that combats Thailands obesity epidemic. While Kiwi’s are growing increasingly aware that globally we have quite high obesity rates Thailand is waging a ware of its own. It’s the most obese nation in South East Asia just behind Malaysia. It’s what they get for spending generations crafting some of the best food in the world. Unfortunately it contributes high amounts of health problems such as high cholesterol and high blood pressure.
What we present now is the AbsorbPlate, which helps cut down the sheer amount of grease in Thai food. Rather than trying to tackle what we put in our mouths, it changes what it’s presented on.
Hundreds of tiny holes inspired by the texture of sponge make AbsorbPlate able to separate excess oil from food before people eat it. The plate can reduce up to 7 ml of grease or approximately 30 calories per plate. The plates were designed to be easy to wash. In order to eat healthier, all they need to do is just continue their regular eating behaviour on our plate.
It’s a small movement, and you can’t expect massive weight loss, but it’s a start. I vote we put these in at ever KFC.
