100 Years of Society & Culture Through Fashion

The Cut Video crew on youtube have produced their fourth episode of 100 Years of Beauty, a series dedicated to women’s fashion over the last 100 years. The styles speak volumes about social mores and historical events. The third episode for example tracks Iranian beauty and the sudden inclusion of the burka in the 1980s comes as a surprise which echoes the cultural impact of the time.

Korea is no exception, with the sudden split in the 1950s of North & South and how each evolved individually. South Korea definitely took more cues from the West while the reclusive North retains a more old-fashioned look.

Below you can see the inspiration used to accurately portray the different looks.
