3 Surprising Ways That Your Makeup Is Ruining Your Selfies

Okay, I don’t know if I’m the only one out there that this happens to, but sometimes I spend what seems like hours perfecting my makeup and then quite chuffed with my efforts, reach for my phone to take a selfie but BAM. On camera I look more like a gremlin than a woman who has just spent hours of my life getting ready. So what on earth is happening here? Am I really that delusional?

According to Kim Kardashian’s makeup artist Mario Dedivanovic, this is actually a very common occurrence among women and turns out it is generally your makeup that is actually ruining your selfies. Apparently, there are a few fatal makeup mistakes that you are probably making that are causing your selfies to look less than ideal. You are about to get schooled.

1. You are not blending properly

In a photo, cakey foundation will be the first thing to show up. In order to avoid this it is important to ensure that you are blending and blurring your foundation properly. If you are struggling, make sure that you are prepping your skin properly with a good primer and using a Beautyblender to buff away any cakey patches.

2. Your lips are crustayyyy

Most lipsticks will dry your lips out and some days you are just honestly left with the crustiest lips of your life and of course, the camera isn’t going to hide that. Dedivanovic recommends prepping your lips with a lip scrub before you apply lipstick, followed by a good smack of lip balm.

3. Your lashes are not on form

While a few straggly lashes and clumps may not be a big deal normally, when it comes to selfies these things show up big time. Dedivanovic recommends using a lash comb after applying mascara to ensure that every lash is falling in line.
