While having a whole cup of coffee before your workout will probably be a bit much, having a small amount of caffeine before you hit the gym will give you the energy boost that you need to work just that bit harder.

2. Take short breaks 

Taking short breaks of between 30 and 60 seconds between sets will help your muscles to recover and will ultimately help you to workout more effectively. Be careful not to break for too long as your muscles will begin to cool down and you will lose motivation.
