Over the past few days police brutality against African American men and women in the United states has been the topic on everybody’s lips, with the deaths of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile sparking outrage around the world.
Having previously addressed the issue of racial violence in her Formation video clip and being a vocal supporter of the #BlackLivesMatter movement, it’s no surprise that our favourite diva and political advocate, Beyoncé has a few things to say in reaction to the events of the past week.
Overnight, Beyoncé took to Instagram to encourage her fans to take action against police brutality in the United States.
“Turn our anger into action,” the singer wrote on Instagram, urging fans to visit her website to find out how to get involved.
On her website Beyoncé asks her fans to “take a stand” by contacting their local politician and lobbying for change.
“We are sick and tired of the killing of young men and women in our communities. It is up to us to take a stand and demand that they “stop killing us.” We don’t need sympathy, we need everyone to respect our lives,” wrote Beyoncé.
“We all have the power to channel our anger and frustration into action. We must use our voices to contact the politicians and legislators in our districts and demand social and judicial changes.”
Beside the message Beyoncé provides a link that directs fans to their nearest politician.
“While we pray for the families of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile, we will also pray for an end to this plague of injustice in our communities,” wrote the singer.
“Your voice will be heard.”
I think it’s safe to say that when it comes to #BlackLivesMatter, Beyoncé ain’t playing.
