One time I got tipped $20 while working a summer job at a cafe and it literally made my week. So I can’t imagine how happy a waiter at a restaurant in Scotland must have been after discovering that he had been left a $1.9 million tip.
Yes, that is correct. $1.9 MILLION!
According to the Evening Express, a man who asked to remain anonymous ate at Rajpoot Indian Restaurant in Aberdeenshire, Scotland and after having a stellar curry, decided to leave a generous tip of £100 – about $188 NZD.
After turning over his credit card, the man had somehow accidentally entered £1,006,082.04 as his final amount, coming to almost $1.9 Million NZD.
According to the restaurant owner Abdul Wahid, he didn’t see the amount the customer entered into the payment machine before processing the payment.
“When he came to pay, I gave him the card machine and he asked to put in the amount himself, but it didn’t go through,” Wahid said.
“I then had to phone the bank for him and I answered all of the questions and they then gave me the confirmation code. At this time, he still had the card machine, so I never saw the amount he had typed in.”
Unfortunately for Wahid, but lucky for the customer, the generous tip was able to be reversed by the bank as soon as the customer realised his boo boo.
That could have been one pricey curry.
