You know what they say – you are what you eat. While I really hope that I am not slowly turning into one very large donut, I think we can all relate to that sad post-junk food binge breakout feeling.
According to health and fitness gurus, Karena and Katrina from Tone It Up, the foods that we eat have a major impact on the state of of hair and skin and therefore, it is completely possible to improve your skin and hair by eating the right foods.
1. Portobello mushrooms
Apparently, vitamin D is the secret to great hair because it stimulates hair follicle growth and prevents hair loss. Naturally high in vitamin D, mushrooms are the perfect way to get long and luscious locks. Karena and Katrina suggest using mushrooms as burger ‘buns’ or having sauteed mushrooms on the side of your evening meal.
According to Karena and Katrina, one of the reasons that some women suffer from acne is because they are low in antioxidants. Rich in the sulfur compound allicin that is an incredible antioxidant with impressive anti-inflammatory properties, eating raw garlic can be very effective at helping to clear problem skin. Just make sure that you remember to brush your teeth afterward!
3. Aloe vera
If your skin is damaged and needs some serious TLC, aloe vera is going to be your best friend. A popular ingredient in many after sun gels, aloe vera helps prevent lipid peroxidation, which can lead to cell damage. While aloe isn’t exactly tasty, incorporating it into smoothies makes it a lot more bearable.
