The MTV Movie and TV Awards Winners

MTV has finally recognised TV shows as being worthy of winning their golden popcorn awards and so has changed it’s awards to include them. This is the first year that the MTV Movie and TV Awards (previously the MTV Movie Awards) has included television shows and we couldn’t be happier. With big actors and actresses showing their faces on the small screen and the budgets for some tv shows being bigger than films it’s not surprising that they’ve been included.

This year the host of the MTV Movie and TV Awards was Adam Devine (who you may recognise from Workaholics and/or Pitch Perfect) and it was held at the Shrine Auditorium in LA. Along with tv shows being added to the mix, two new categories were also added – ‘Trending’ and ‘Best Musical Moment’.

MTV Movie and TV Awards Winners

Stranger Things was, unsurprisingly, the winner for Show of the Year, taking out the widely loved Game of Thrones. Millie Bobby Brown also won Best Actor in a Show for her role in Stranger Things. Neither of these are very surprising considering Stranger Things was an incredibly well made and well performed show. (It’s even in my top Netflix shows post). The winner for Best Movie was Beauty and the Beast and Emma Watson won Best Actor for her lead role in the film.

In other categories, Best Hero was deservingly won by Taraji P. Henson from Hidden Figures! Best Villain was won by Jeffrey Dean Morgan from The Walking Dead for the character we all love to hate – Negan. Best Duo was won by Hugh Jackman and Dafne Keen for their incredible performance in Logan.

Then when it came down to the Best Host category it was won by Trevor Noah from The Daily Show. He was up against such greats as Ellen DeGeneres and John Oliver but it was definitely well deserved. For the new category of ‘Trending” – which had contenders such as “Cash Me Outside How Bout Dat,” Dr. Phil and Winona Ryder’s Winning SAG Awards Reaction, 23rd Annual SAG Awards – was ultimately won by “Run The World (Girls)” feat. Channing Tatum and Beyoncé, Lip Sync Battle. Incase you missed this one you can watch it bellow because it’s actually amazing.

We would agree with pretty much all the choices by MTV this year. If you want a full list of all the contenders and winners you can check them out here.
