The Best Firework Displays To Watch This Weekend

Now that Halloween is over, the next holiday is nearly upon us, guy Fawkes Day. I’m not a big fan of doing fireworks at home, as it freaks out my animals but luckily there are ways to still get your firework fix without horrifying your pets. Turns out there’s quite a few different firework displays you could attend this weekend no matter what part of New Zealand you’re in.

1. Fireworks extravaganza, Morrinsville

If you’re around the mighty Waikato this weekend there’s a public display on Saturday night at the Morrinsville Recreation grounds. There’s food stalls, a massive bonfire and of course, fireworks.

2. Whangarei Lions Club Fireworks Spectacular

If you’re further North, Whangarei has their own display on Saturday night. The firework display will be set to music and is great for a night out with friends or family.

3. Guy Fawkes Fireworks Spectacular, Christchurch

The Christchurch event is held on the actual Guy Fawkes night – Sunday the 5th. The gates are opened at 7pm with the firework display at 9:10pm. This is on the New Brighton Pier which makes for a spectacular show. The music for the display is also going to be Star Wars themed to celebrate its 40th anniversary. Best of all it’s free!

4. Waiuku Blast to the Past, Waiuku

On the outskirts of Auckland Waiuku puts on a cute little display each year. This event isn’t on the actual Guy Fawkes Day, in fact it happens the weekend after on the 11th of November. There’s a huge craft and food market and they accept gold coin donations.

5. Sky Show Fireworks, Wellington

If you’re in Wellington this is your last chance to watch the Guy Fawkes show off the wharf. Sunday the 5th is the last display as next year the fireworks are being moved to earlier in the year to celebrate Matariki instead. This is a pretty massive event with 18 different food trucks attending.
