This year has already seen some wild and gorgeous hair dye trends; there was blorange, rose gold hair, and now there’s Fire. And yes, Fire may just be the coolest hair dye to ever exist. Fire has been created by a woman who refers to herself as an Alchemist, Lauren Bowker.
Bowker combines science with art and art with performance. As well as being a scientist, Lauren Bowker describes herself as a ‘real-life witch’. And she may not be too far off with that. The idea of hair dye that changes colour due to environment changes is pretty magical.
The technology behind Fire hair dye is similar to that of a mood ring Bowker says. “When heat hits the pigment, or if the cool hits the pigment, it changes the bonds of the chemistry to give you a different color, so it’s like a chemical reaction.”
The magical look was inspired by the iconic hair change scene in the 90’s classic teen movie ‘The Craft’. The look was unveiled for the first time at London Fashion Week. The dye is said to be semi-permanent and completely non-toxic.
Bowker revealed she has more hair dyes lined up. “They change their structure, which gives you a light refraction instead, so it’s more like a prism color change … If you have red hair and you’re in the wind it might go blue. So what we did was look at data patterns of weathers and the environment in different countries and tailor the color changes to correlate with those.”
Although not available on retail shelves just yet keep an eye out because it is set to be available very soon. It will also be created in multiple different colours; including pastel pinks which change to silver in colder temperatures. The hype is very very real!
