Auckland Summer Date Ideas That Won’t Break The Bank

Auckland summer has finally decided to arrive and Valentines day is just around the corner. This means that it’s the perfect time to whisk away your Valentine and explore some of the amazing things that Auckland has to offer that won’t make you shudder at your bank account. They do say the best things in life are free – or exceptionally cheap.

Mission Bay

The classic Auckland summer date idea is the beach and l we’re lucky enough to be surrounded by gorgeous beaches and best of all, they’re free! Why not head over to Mission Bay to soak up the sun, have a dip in the calm waters, or enjoy a picnic in the grass, all just 15 minutes away from the central city!

Tawharanui Regional Park

For a more private beach, pack the car and take a scenic drive up North to Tawharanui Regional Park and enjoy looking at the stunning views of the peninsula and waves that make this the perfect spot for surfing and swimming.

Auckland Museum

If you’re more of a muso and wanting an indoor option head over to Auckland Museum and take a look at their new exhibition ‘Making Music in New Zealand’. With interactive exhibits you can step into a recording studio, spin some decks as a DJ, and learn to play some classic Kiwi songs. The best part is if you’re an Auckland resident entry to the museum is free, just be sure to bring along some form of ID.

Night Noodle Markets

For an evening option head on down to the night noodle markets, for a tasty dinner date idea, at the Auckland Domain on until the 12th of February. Entry is free with food all between $5-$15.

Manukau Heads Lighthouse

Take a visit to the Awhitu peninsula and check out the Manukau Heads lighthouse. Re-opened to the public in 2006 climb to the top of this historical lighthouse and be stunned by the incredible views. Visiting the lighthouse is free however, donations can be made.

Rangitoto Island

If you and your partner are feeling energetic hop on a ferry over to New Zealand’s youngest volcano, Rangitoto island. Climb through the world’s largest pohutukawa forest and see panoramic views of Auckland and the Hauraki Gulf. Just remember to pack some water, sunscreen,and bring a pair of walking shoes.

Pokeno Ice Cream

For a good way to beat the Auckland summer heat and satisfy your sweet tooth cravings head out to Pokeno to try their New Zealand famous Pokeno ice creams. Here, a huge array of flavours awaits you and it’s only $1 per scoop it’s the perfect summer day treat. I highly recommend the cookie dough and raspberry ambrosia!
