Wine Review: Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc 2016

Cloudy Bay has always set the standard in Marlborough Sauvignon Blancs. Owned by LVMH (Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessey) insist they never compromise on quality and are driven to deliver only the very best wines while not being beholden to massive volumes.

Their vineyard covers only a small pocket of land in the northern parts of the Wairau Valley, between the Richmond Ranges to the west and the Wither Hills to the east. The grapes are sourced from estate and grower vineyards located in the Rapaura, Fairhall, Renwick and Brancott sub-regions of the Wairau Valley.

Particular care and attention results in subtle citrus flavours where the winemakers aim to play down the big tropical flavours that tend come from the southern parts or the Wairau valley.

With less of the big fruity flavours, you’ll find this wine will last well in the bottle and makes the perfect accompaniment for seafood dishes.

A vibrant mix of kaffir lime, lemon zest and nectarine aromatics intermingle with the bright perfume of orange blossom. The palate is brimming with ripe citrus and stone fruit flavours that are framed by sleek and succulent acid architecture.

Remember to drink responsibly.
