Writing a CV is one of the most stressful processes that almost everyone has to endure. Once you decide what you want it to look like the harder part starts – selling yourself. You are a passionate person, with strong leadership skills and experienced in the field you are applying.
The only problem is, with all your effort you are still probably creating something that isn’t going to get you the job. Why? A few simple words or should we say, buzzwords.
A new Linkedin report suggests that you should stop using the following buzzwords if you want to get noticed.
Ouch, I guarantee if we CTRL F on our CV we will find a few of these words.
It may seem strange to cut these out of your vocabulary, after all you want your employer to know that you are passionate and that you are experienced. But, the whole idea is that if you are as creative as you say you are, you should be able to come up with new words that better describe who you are. If in doubt, use a theasaurus to extend your vocabulary – just don’t use it for every word or you will have a Friends Joey moment when he wrote the adoption letter for Monica and Chandler.
End of the day, you know that they say actions speak a thousand words. Don’t just say you are passionate, show it. Make your CV stand out with your creative skills, show off how passionate you are with a perfectly constructed portfolio.
With so many people out there applying for the same job using the same buzzwords, it pays to make your CV stand out.
