Science Reveals Whether Yoga Is An Effective Form Of Cardio

There is nothing appealing about sweating up a storm and getting legs cramps, well, for most of us anyway. That is why we are fast becoming obsessed with yoga and coining ourself ‘yogis’. After all, a stretch session leaves you glowing with sweat, feeling strong and refreshed rather than panting, aching and flooded with sweat.

Their is some good news for all of us that pick mats over sneakers. According to a new review yoga counts as cardio!

The European Journal of Preventive Cardiology reported did a study looking into the effectiveness of yoga in ‘modifying risk factors for cardiovascular disease and metabolic syndrome.’

They found that there was “promising evidence of yoga improving cardio-metabolic health”. In other words, yoga can help improve your chances of not having diabetes, heart disease, high blood sugar, abnormal cholesterol levels and strokes.

It also found that yoga could protect our bodies from excess body fat just as much as typical cardio exercises, including running.

Throw your running shoes to the back of the wardrobe never to be seen again, that’s my plan at least. As if we needed any more reasons to live in our yoga pants!
