Wine Review: Mills Reef Estate 2016 Pinot Gris
Mills Reef produce a wide range of varietals out of their Hawkes Bay vineyards, with outstanding Bordeaux style wines such as Syrahs and Chardonnays, high on the list. With the Pinot Gris grapes normally preferring cooler climates the wine growers at Mills Reef chose Maraekakaho, a sub-region of Hawke’s Bay, which enjoys a temperate climate moderated throughout summer by cooling afternoon breezes.
The result is a wine of luscious intensity, soft rounded style with an emphasis on natural fruit character – representing great value for everyday enjoyment.
TASTING NOTES – Full bodied and smooth, it displays attractive peach and pear flavours complemented with dried hay and fig notes, and an enveloping spicy lift which leads to a soft dry finish. Enjoy with antipasto, chicken or fish dishes.
