Wine Review: Yalumba Eden Valley 2014 Viognier

The Yalumba Eden Valley 2014 Viognier is a wine variety that was virtually extinct until Yalumba winery took up the challenge to reintroduce the wine in 1980 from plantings in Eden Valley (Barossa region). Being part of the Samuels Garden collection has a certain significance since this is the site of Samuel Smith’s (Australian Politician) garden from 165 years ago where this variety is quite likely to have grown.

TASTING NOTES – This wine is the pure essence of what Viognier is at Yalumba. Apricot fruit aromas and flavours with long luscious texture and hints of orange oil to finish. It’s all there ready to seduce and delight the imbiber at a moment’s notice. A wonderful food wine – try it with a Moroccan tagine; pork dumplings with ginger and chilli oil dipping sauce; or Vietnamese spiced crab spring rolls with green mango salad, coriander, ginger, sesame and lime.
