In a recent interview with Power 106, Justin Credible and Eric D-Lux asked Grande a rather basic question: “If you could use makeup or your phone one last time, which one would you pick?”
To this, she replied, “Is this what you think girls have trouble choosing between? Is this men assuming that that’s what girls would have to choose between?”
From then on, there was a bit of tension between the radio hosts and Grande. The conversation progressed to the Apple’s latest emoji update. “The unicorn [emoji] is great, obviously,” she said, until Eric rolled his eyes, “Girls”. Offended by the sexism, Grande said, “You need a little brushing up about equality. Who says the unicorn emoji isn’t for men?”
Despite their playful topic about emojis, it was evident that there was underlying sexism within their conversation. When asked about what she’d like to change about the world, she said, “I have a long list of things I’d like to change. I think just sort of judgment in general; intolerance, meanness, double standards, misogyny, racism, sexism, all that shit. There’s lots we need to get started on, we’ve got work to do!”
