Israeli supermodel Bar Refaeli and her mother was arrested on Wednesday after an undercover investigation due to her failing to claim a large portion of her income, the Agence-France-Presse reports. How much? – “Dozens of millions of shekels” says Israel’s Tax Authority in a statement.
BBC reports that Refaeli had been registering luxury apartment rentals under her other and brothers’ names to avoid paying taxes on the properties. The tax authority also accused her of failing to report discounts on luxury goods and benefits that should have otherwise been taxed. This included free use of Range Rover and Lexus cars that were not registered in her name and were provided by companies in exchange for publicity photographs.
Ms Refaeli’s lawyer rejected the allegations.
“There is no drama. In the end, this is just a civil dispute. No-one cheated anyone else. It will all clear up soon,” Giora Aderet told the NRG news website.
A court agreed to release her on $193,000 bail.
