Chantelle from Perth won $900 by betting on the 100-1 shot Prince of Penzance but unfortunately lost it all after sharing her Melbourne Cup winning ticket in a selfie on Facebook. One not-so-friendly Facebook “friend” took a photo of the barcode to an automated machine and stole her winnings, reports Triple M.
The original photo has Chantelle holding the TAB ticket next to her face with the caption “Winner winner Chicken dinner!!” Once knowing that she had fallen victim to cyber theft, Chantell posted the message, “To the low life who is obviously my friend on Facebook and used my photo to claim our winnings. You’re a massive dick. You ruined my day.”
She put $20 on a horse that no one thought win, and won $825. She tagged two friends in the post but all three of them have their Facebook settings to private. To the revelation that it was indeed an acquaintance, Chantelle said she would need to cull a few “friends” from her social media profile. After talking to Merrick And Australia Radio, they offered Chantelle the money she spent on her original bet.
