How To Drink The Wine That Is The Choice Of A Wine Maker

I was recently fortunate enough to catch up with Miles Dinneen – winemaker for Crossroads winery since 2004. Miles is one of these salt of the earth kind of guys, born right there in Hawkes Bay and educated in viticulture at Lincoln University.

Miles’s passion for his craft is evident in just how well he creates such great wine. The Winemakers Collection 2014 Syrah is a delightful drop and quite rightfully something Miles is very proud of.

For over 20 years, Crossroads has represented the very best of small parcel Hawke’s Bay wine making.

Grown from single vineyard grapes in their Elms vineyard, right in heart of the coveted Gimblett Gravels, and using only the best hand-picked grapes they batch pick these grapes almost vine by vine to ensure consistent ripening throughout the harvest. The wine has matured in French Oak barrels for 14 months with 20% new oak.

2014 was an outstanding season for Hawkes Bay and Miles has delivered a fantastic example of a great Syrah in this one. A very elegant wine that is rich and silky with a long fine finish. Complex dark berries and plum flavours with a bouquet of violets, a slight touch of pepper and smoke on the nose.

This would be great with game such as venison, duck, a big juicy steak or a nice winter’s roast beef.

Remember to drink responsibly.
