Misogynist Warns of “Feminist Propaganda” in Mad Max Film
You’d think that Mad Max: Fury Road would be the sort of film every guy would be into – the crazy cars, the explosions, the post apocalyptic setting… but according to one Men’s Rights Activist, it’s a movie that all men should boycott. Why? It has a strong female lead.
Charlize Theron, our current cover woman, stars as Imperator Furiosa – a ferocious and self-sufficient character who more than capable of taking care of herself and the titular Max (played by Tom Hardy) if need be. Aaron Clary of the Return of Kings website claims (based on the trailers he’s watched) that the movie is “a feminist piece of propaganda posing as a guy flick.”
But it gets better. He continued to rant, “…men in America and around the world are going to be duped by explosions, fire tornadoes, and desert raiders into seeing what is guaranteed to be nothing more than feminist propaganda, while at the same time being insulted AND tricked into viewing a piece of American culture ruined and rewritten right in front of their very eyes.” Not to rain on your parade Clary, but Mad Max is written and directed by an Australian, it’s set and shot in Australia, and Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron are British and South African, respectively. Even the actor who played the original Max (Mel Gibson) is an Australian. So much for American culture.
He goes on to warn that if men flock to see Mad Max: Fury Road, “…you can expect Hollywood to further condition young women to be like “Imperator Furiosa” and not Sophia Loren.” Dear god, we wouldn’t want women getting ideas about being strong and independent, would we?

So while the frenetic action of Fury Road may not be everyone’s cup of tea, it would almost be worth heading along just to spite guys like this, and show Hollywood that strong female leads are the way of the future.
