Lovers of makeup are uniting after a recent trend of makeup shaming. It seems that every week there’s a new thing people are being shamed for and a just as strong counter movement flares up in response. When arguments are fought via hashtags it’s usually the people with the most entertaining counter argument that win (or at least gets the publicity.)
In this case #thepowerofmakeup has definitely won, with proponents doing half their face in makeup. Nikki, a Youtuber who does makeup tutorials started the trend with this video.
“I feel like lately makeup shaming has become a thing. It’s as if putting makeup on to have fun is a shame. Therefore, I thought it would be cool to show you the power of makeup. A transformation.” she says.
It’s not always about impressing boys, or being ashamed of yourself, as one Instagramer puts it “But, I’ve learned and realized I was not wearing makeup to impress anybody but myself. It shouldn’t matter how much makeup a girl is wearing or not wearing. A girl isn’t “catfishing” you just because society taught you to believe she isn’t beautiful without makeup.”
