Women of Beauty: Green Queen

Stephanie Evans is the founder of successful Cantabrian skin care brand, Oasis Beauty, renowned for its sun protective and dry skin care products.

When do you feel most beautiful?

I recently had my makeup done by Angelica at M.A.C. Britomart and my hair done by Shannon at Dry & Tea for some publicity photos. What a treat! I learnt a few tricks that I could try at home and I’ve decided to get it done again sometime as it can give you a real lift – a smile on your face and a spring in your step.

What is your favourite skin care product and why?

It changes all the time, but at the moment I’m hooked on Oasis Beauty Lips & Lashes. Everybody thinks I’m wearing false eyelashes! It took six to eight weeks but suddenly I noticed my lashes were longer, thicker and darker. There are some really good eyelash serums on the market right now but Lips & Lashes is natural and affordable.

Who is your beauty icon?

Cameron Diaz. What makes her stand out as a true beauty is her love of life; she always has a big smile and seems to be having a great time! That’s what I aspire to.

MakeupWhat is your daily beauty routine?

Layering skin care is the key for me, especially as I get older. I’m 46 this year, so I take extra care to keep my skin as youthful as possible. I cleanse twice a day, with a double cleanse in the evening. I spend a minute wiping toner on my skin, because it brightens my skin. Serums can penetrate the skin deeper than a moisturiser, so I spend a minute gently massaging it in before applying day moisturiser with sunscreen, followed by Lips & Lashes. For makeup, I apply Oasis Sun BB Cream with a brush. I use Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel EyeLiner in Sepia Ink. It’s a good daytime shade for blondes. I finish up with lashings of mascara and whatever lipstick or gloss takes my fancy that day; I love M.A.C. Ruby Woo and Crème Sheen Glass gloss. In the evening, I use a night cream over my serum and Lips & Lashes again, all over my eye and lip area and over my lashes. Lastly, I spritz with Clarins Eau Dynamisante, which is a bit of a classic – I have been using it for the last 20 years as it smells lovely and fresh.

What product always lives in your handbag?

I have five handbags and I keep a little cosmetic bag of essentials in each, so I never get caught out if I grab a bag and run! Among the essentials are blotting papers that are great to keep my shiny face under control. There’s always a lip gloss in there, along with hand sanitiser and a travel size Oasis Sun that doubles as a hand cream. I’ve neglected my hands and neck for many years, and am now vigilant about keeping the sun off them. Luckily, I’ve noticed a marked improvement over the last year or so.

What is your beauty philosophy?

I’m a mad animal lover, so we run a small rescue centre at Oasis Head Cottage. In between running the beauty business, you’ll often find me giving a hedgehog a warm oil bath or bottle feeding orphaned lambs. It goes without saying that I don’t use cosmetics that have been tested on animals. SAFE has a list of cruelty free companies on their website, safe.org.nz, which is a good place to start.
